Who We Are
During Kye’s 25 years, he had a superpower for uplifting others and inspiring them to take action. He focused this unparalleled energy on addressing the climate crisis. He often remarked that “humanity spends too much time talking and too little time making change.” Still, he was optimistic that the right mix of science, innovation, policy, and grassroots action could help save the planet from the worst effects of climate change.
Kye’s Climate Action Fund (KCAF) honors Kye’s legacy by emphasizing that solving the climate crisis requires intensive collaboration and a diverse set of perspectives. Kye always chose to inspire with optimism and excitement rather than fear, and we hold ourselves to the same standard. Rather than being solely motivated by anxiety for the future, Kye was driven by a genuine interest in climate solutions and a belief that the climate crisis can be addressed with a proper level of resources and intelligent problem solving.
What We Do
Through grant funding and mentorship, KCAF strives to eliminate the potential financial barriers of entering the climate space upon graduation, because we believe individuals should be enabled to pursue their climate career regardless of their financial status.
The urgency of addressing the climate crisis is now widely accepted, and more fellowship, internship, and job opportunities are popping up at innovative climate organizations everyday. Yet research confirms that in the climate nonprofit and research spaces, organizations rarely pay interns or fellows more than $20/an hour — if they pay them at all. Every young person who cares to dedicate their time and energy to addressing the climate crisis should be encouraged to do so. In particular, KCAF believes in supporting passionate young people who come from vulnerable, largely poor and nonwhite populations that disproportionately bear the consequences of climate change and environmental degradation.
